Schedule 3 of Floods & Water Management Act to be Implemented

Commenting on the announcement, Alastair Chisholm, policy Director at CIWEM said ‘CIWEM welcomes the government’s announcement that it will finally implement Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 which will mandate sustainable drainage (SuDS) in new developments. Following years of making the case for a more robust approach to SuDS, we are pleased to see sense finally prevail’

Future Waters Board Director, David Smoker added ‘This is a positive step that will help in managing the challenges we face in relation to flooding and drainage – the important steps begin now as Defra carry out a consultation in order to collect views on the impact assessment, national standards and statutory instruments during 2023. Future Water will participate fully in these discussions

Future Water, along with CIWEM and  40 other expert bodies and academics wrote to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last year to urge him to finally implement the legislation.
