Radius Systems expands Puriton® Barrier Pipe range to support larger water infrastructure projects

By Radius Systems

Radius Systems is expanding its Puriton® Barrier Pipe System into larger diameters, with 250 mm and 315 mm SDR17 pipes among the first additions to the expanded range.

Further sizes and SDR11 and SDR17 options are in development as Radius Systems progresses towards a comprehensive larger-diameter offering extending up to 400 mm.

The expansion will provide greater choice for water companies, contractors and designers specifying potable water pipelines where ground contamination presents a potential risk to drinking water quality.

Protecting drinking water in contaminated ground

When potable water pipelines are installed through contaminated ground, certain aggressive chemicals present in the surrounding soil or groundwater can permeate conventional polyethylene pipe walls, potentially affecting drinking water quality.

This is particularly relevant to brownfield developments, former industrial sites and other locations where historical land use may have introduced contaminants such as aggressive hydrocarbons.

Barrier pipe systems are designed to protect against this risk. Radius Systems' Puriton® Barrier Pipe incorporates an integral aluminium barrier layer designed to prevent contaminants permeating through the pipe wall, helping safeguard drinking water supplies in contaminated land applications.

By combining this barrier protection with the practical advantages of polyethylene pipe systems, Puriton® provides a solution for potable water installations where ground conditions require additional consideration.

Extending protection to larger-diameter pipelines

The introduction of larger-diameter Puriton® pipe broadens the options available for water infrastructure projects where both pipeline capacity and protection against ground contamination are important considerations.

This is particularly relevant to larger distribution mains, network reinforcement schemes and new infrastructure developments, where pipeline operating requirements must be considered alongside the potential risks associated with contaminated ground.

The expansion across SDR11 and SDR17 will provide greater flexibility to accommodate varying pressure and hydraulic performance, allowing designers and specifiers to consider barrier pipe technology for a wider variety of potable water applications.

The continued expansion of Puriton® will give water companies, designers and contractors greater choice when specifying larger-diameter potable water pipelines through contaminated ground. With further sizes in development up to 400 mm.
