Young Water Dragons Award Winners Announced at the Big Bang Fair

29 March 2019

The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK. At The Big Bang Fair you will find an award-winning combination of shows, interactive workshops, exhibits and careers information from STEM based companies and professionals.

The Big Bang Competition is a key element of the fair, recognising and rewarding young people’s achievements in all areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), whilst also providing them with the opportunity to build their skills and confidence in project-based work.

During The Big Bang Competition representatives from Future Water Association, Anglian Water & Artesia Consulting present the Young Water Dragons Award to the individual, or team, who from their industry viewpoint, has produced the best water-based project.

Judging 2019’s water themed projects were Jason Tucker – Executive Director with Anglian Water ServicesSarah Rogerson of Artesia Consulting and Alastair Moseley, Head of Future Water Association’s Innovation Hub. All three judges were impressed by the quality of the projects submitted, along with the maturity and creativity of all the young people involved.

The winners of the 2019 Young Water Dragons Award were a team from Hurstpierpoint College with their project – ‘Improving Wastewater Screens’. A detailed study of the mechanical and hydraulic characteristics of screens, including the shape and size, drawing conclusions that will be of significance to the screen manufacturing industry.

Future Water Association and Anglian Water look forward to participating in The Big Bang Fair Competition 2020 and cannot wait to see what industry challenging ideas the bright minds of the UK come up with next.
