HydroDaaS Gold (Data as a Service) – Fornham & Louth Section 82 CWQM
We’re proud to announce that Xylem Water Solutions UK & Ireland has won Best Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring Project Award at the WWEM Expo Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025 for our innovative HydroDaaS Gold deployment at Fornham & Louth.
Project Overview
Xylem was commissioned to deliver a 12-month full OpEx HydroDaaS Gold Continuous River Water Quality Monitoring (CWQM) contract on upstream and downstream river locations of Fornham & Louth WwTW final effluent outfalls. This trial, initiated by Anglian Water’s strategic optimisation team in March 2024, was designed to evaluate the performance of Xylem’s YSI digital sensor sonde technology and HydroSphere Cloud visualisation platform for Section 82 monitoring.
Technology in Action
· YSI EXO2S sondes connected to HydroRIG-K solar kiosks measured & transmitted data every 15 minutes to the HydroSphere Cloud.
· Powered by 33W anti-vandal solar panels built within kiosk roof, the systems ensured robust, autonomous operation.
· Data was visualised via HydroSphere, featuring smart dashboards, traffic light alarms, and unlimited logins.
· Xylem provided full-service end-to-end delivery including installation (via M Group Water – Section 82 Collaboration), commissioning, calibration (every 8 weeks), and maintenance.
Results & Impact
· 98% data uptime achieved over a 12-month period.
· No significant sensor drift: 12-month average ammonium drifts were 0.4 mg/L on the upstream sonde and 0.21 mg/L on the downstream sonde, well within accuracy specs. (±0.5 mg/L-N in the range of 0 to 2 mg/L-N (NH4+)
· HydroSphere revealed higher ammonium and lower dissolved oxygen upstream, prompting an EA catchment-wide investigation.
· A virtual NH4 model was used to validate drift levels and enhance data insights.
Customer Feedback
“Working with Xylem to trial their sondes and HydroDaaS Gold package at 4 locations has given us great insight. Xylem have been very accommodating and have provided expertise in many areas including recommending best mixing locations during pre-installation surveys, delivering bespoke installs to a high standard and providing on-hand data assistance.” – Anglian Water’s Project Manager – Strategic Optimisation
