Future Water hosted our second Water Dragons heat of 2020 on 30th July by Zoom and were once again hugely impressed by the quality of the four innovations presented.
These were:
• Qinov8, with their AQUAPEA® leak prevention device that is aimed at fixing leaks within customer-side networks
• Strathkelvin Instruments with their online compliance monitoring system for Wastewater Discharge from WwTP which makes aerated water treatment processes more efficient
• Zero Pollution Network with their campaign to bring organisations together to prevent pollution through collective approaches to monitoring and pollution prevention
• Inicio with their Inicio AI technology that will improve the experience of customers unable to pay their water bills and create payment plans for them without requiring extra staffing
Our panel of judges was drawn from water companies, businesses and academia
Alastair Moseley, H2O WEM, presided over the competition and chaired the judge’s deliberations following the four presentations but was not a voting member of the panel.
The judges were unanimous in awarding first place in this heat to Qinov8 but were very impressed by all four competing companies and hope that the organisations that did not win this time will continue to develop their innovations and introduce them to the market place.
Water Dragons continues to be hugely successful for Future Water and in the ten years or so that it has been running has seen over 250 innovations and played a significant part in helping these companies show case their work and connect them with future customers and business partners.
The first of our 2020 competitions this year was held at FLOODEX in Peterborough in February. Little were we to know then that it would probably be the last time for quite a while before we will be able to hold a competition face to face again, but the Zoom format is working well for us and our 2019 final was held on line on 30th March this year, hosted by Yorkshire Water. The 2019 winners will be announced in the Autumn following the postponement of our Awards Lunch in May. Our extended thanks go to our 2019 finalists for their continuing patience in waiting to hear the outcome!
We are planning to hold at least another two Water Dragons heats on line this year, so watch this space for announcements and if you have an innovation that you would like to showcase, or know another company that does, please consider entering!
