The Coal Authority: mining water & heat resources from Britain’s abandoned coal mines

Jeremy Crooks, Head of Innovation for The Coal Authority is leading a wide range of initiatives to harness the resources of abandoned coal mines across the country. The Authority manages more than 70 sites and has a legacy portfolio of over £2.3 bn, of which several million alone is being spent on mine water projects.

- How The Coal Authority is ‘mining’ the water and the vast heat potential that exists within the deep mine workings.
- Some of the district heating schemes using mine water heat energy that are being developed in the North East of England
- The support network of supply chain companies that The Coal Authority needs to fulfil its obligations and enable these new initiatives to flourish.
A Q&A session will allow for discussion about the Authority operations and the skills, technologies that are required.
