The UK Developer Services Event and the Water Sector

The UK Developer Services Event with a Water Focus, presented in collaboration with CIRIA, BUILDOFFSITE, EPS and Future Water, aims to convene professionals from the development and water industries. The event seeks to facilitate discussions on challenges, innovations, and opportunities in water management within urban development contexts. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and explore the latest technologies and strategies for sustainable water resource management in urban environments.

Session 1: Enabling Nutrient Neutrality in Wastewater Treatment 

Time: 10:00 – 10:45  – Shaun Stevens – ESP, Greg Morley – Barratt David Wilson Homes, Guy Laister – Water Environment Limited

Kickstarting the day, we delve into the realm of nutrient neutrality in wastewater treatment. EPS Water, a leading provider of treatment solutions, will take us through the journey of achieving nutrient neutrality at the Broad Oak WWTP development in Canterbury. Following this, an engaging panel discussion will provide insights into policy changes, technology integration, and the role of nature-based solutions in sustainable drainage systems. 

 

Session 2: Streamlining Utility Connections in the UK Water Sector 

Time: 10:45 – 11:30 – David Macdonald -Radius Subterra, Ben Crabtree – Ovarro

This session focuses on strategies for streamlining utility connections in the UK water sector. A workshop featuring Radius Subterra and Ovarro will explore challenges and opportunities, followed by open-floor discussions where attendees can share experiences and suggest improvements. 

 

 

Session 3: Exploring Collaborative Approaches in Utility Connections and Developers 

Time: 11:30 – 12:15  – Catherine Fearon, Ryan O’Sullivan – ESP Utilities Ltd

Embark on a journey of collaboration between NAVs and property developers in utility connections. Gain insights into industry challenges, regulatory considerations, and identify opportunities for collaboration. 

 

 

 

Session 4: Planning for a More Sustainable Home – A Developer’s Perspective 

Time: 12:45 – 13:30 –  Lalit Chauhan – Zed Pods & Martin Ballard – Wates

Join us for an exploration of sustainable planning and operational practices in the housing development sector. Zed Pods will present their approach to sustainable home development, followed by a panel discussion on post-planning considerations and industry-wide initiatives for greener homes. 

 

 

Session 5: Community, Environment and Water Maintenance 

Time: 13:30 – 14:05  – Adrien Baudrimont – Ciria, Cristina Refolo – Refolo Landscape Architects Ltd

Explore environmental considerations and SuDS implementation for resilient infrastructure. Learn from case studies highlighting successful integration of SuDS and discuss technical solutions and advantages of implementation. 

 

 

 

Session 6: Building Water Smart Communities 

Time: 14:15 – 15:20 – Paul Shaffer- CIWEM, John Hernon – Thames Water

Get an overview of the Enabling Water Smart Communities project by Arup and its significance. Learn from real-world examples of water smart solutions in action, followed by a group discussion. 

 

 

 

Closing Event

The event concludes with an interactive dialogue between stakeholders for collaborative solutions, followed by closing remarks summarizing key insights and encouraging continued collaboration.
