Andrew Oakes

Leakage Strategy and Water Balance Manager, Thames Water

Andrew starting his career working on nuclear submarines, but now has over 30 years’ experience working in the water industry, principally in the areas of water networks and supply demand planning.

For the first 10 years, Andrew, working for the Water Research Centre, undertook research and provided consultancy services to most of the water companies in the UK.

For the last 20 years he has been working for Thames Water, which supplies water to over 10 million customers, the majority of which are in London. This has meant grappling with unique challenges, managing a historic pipe network in this fast growing, culturally diverse, 24/7 capital city. Throughout this time, he has also been extremely active in steering UKWIR research projects, and for a couple of years was the UKWIR Leakage Programme Lead helping to coordinate the research program.
