A Winning Water Dragons Final

On 31 March we were joined online by over 40 water industry professionals for the virtual Water Dragons Final. We were thrilled that at this challenging time so many companies were able to participate, some even dialling in from France and Australia to take part. As well as the finalists presenting their innovative products and services, we also enjoyed the company of Yorkshire Water, who shared information about an exciting upcoming project where they are seeking the involvement of the supply chain. More details on this will be made available to those who attended very shortly.

Although we have been running the Water Dragons initiative for over twelve years, conducting the final via a virtual environment was a first for us. With the support and commitment from the finalists and six industry judges, making up the Water Dragons panel, we are delighted to hail the event a real triumph.

In addition to presenters and judges, we were also joined by graphic artist Sandra Howgate who produced some wonderful images capturing the presentations and discussions as they happened.

Once all the pitches had been presented, those companies which had taken an exhibitor spot for the day, took part in a private 20-minute 1-2-1 session with Yorkshire Water. A slight change from the traditional exhibitor experience, but one that all parties thought worked very well.

The winner of the Water Dragons 2019 final will be announced at our annual awards lunch on the 5th November. We realise that this is quite a while to wait but given the current circumstances, we’re sure you will appreciate the need to delay such a large gathering.

To find out more about the awards lunch and reserve your place so that you can congratulate the winner in person, please visit: https://www.futurewaterassociation.com/event/annual-awards-lunch-save-the-date/

Following the success of this event the Association continues to adapt to the current working environment, by developing a program of virtual meetings, including those previously held at water companies. Going forward members will be able to register to attend the next few meetings via a virtual platform (those already registered will be updated with details).

Some feedback from those who took part in the final:

  • ‘It was good fun!’
  • ‘There were no technical kinks and there was plenty of time to tell our story’
  • ‘The pitching and question time were just as good as being there in person’
  • ‘It was perfect, truth be told: there were no technical kinks, there was plenty of time to tell our story ‘

If you would like to take part in Water Dragons 2020, we are now accepting entries and would love to hear from you. Please visit: https://www.futurewaterassociation.com/water-dragons/
