Water Innovation Forum 2015, 28 May 2015, Belfast
Chaired by well-known broadcaster Wendy Austin the event focussed upon innovation and was organised in association with Northern Ireland Water, featuring presentations from senior figures from N.I. and Irish Water, N.I. Government Departments and the Supply Chain. The Keynote Address was provided by Sara Venning, Chief Executive, NI Water. In addition and to ensure a more interactive event there were two hosted ‘Innovation Workshops’ and ‘Meet the Buyer’ opportunities for delegates - this team comprised:

Trevor Armstrong: (Operational Procurement) Senior category manager: Fleet, Stores, Energy, Chemicals, PPE, Analytical services/consumables
Pamela Rodgers: Category manager: (Operational Procurement) M&E equipment/services, Leakage equipment/services, Waste management services, network maintenance services, meter supply/installation
Matthew Hunt and Michael McCarter: (Integrated Procurement) responsible for buying capital plant & equipment (generators, compressors & blowers, pumps, screens, instrumentation etc.)
Mark Mitchell: (Capital investment Procurement)
A new and exciting development saw a live edition of the popular ‘Water Dragons’ event, now in its eighth year this national competition for innovative products and services for the first time included a regional opportunity for companies to enter.
Short listed entries pitched their ideas to a panel of Senior Industry Figures - the Water Dragons at this heat being: Bill Gowdy and Sara Venning from Northern Ireland Water, Mark O'Callaghan from Irish Water, Tony Conway from Sheffield University and Alastair Moseley Chair of the Future Water Association Innovation Forum, who decided upon the winning entry that will then go forward to the national finals later this year. To add spice to the competition there was a special ‘Audience Award’ given to the entry gaining the most votes from the live audience on the day. Short-listed entries included:

The day was enhanced by an exhibition area where suppliers and other industry stakeholders were able to show their wares and of course there was ample networking opportunity in this magnificent venue. The Society also hosted a pre-event ‘Networking Dinner’ at the same venue on the evening of the 27th May when guests from across the water and wastewater sector enjoyed an evening of fine dining and entertainment.
