Water Dragons 2016

‘Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower’ - Steve Jobs, Apple

Future Water Association launched Water Dragons in 2008. It provides a unique opportunity for companies to pitch product, service or process innovations to a panel of senior water company executives: ‘Water Dragons’.

Now in its ninth year, Water Dragons is itself innovating. The event in 2015 saw the introduction of three regional heats. This effectively opened up the Water Dragons opportunity to a far broader range of contractors, manufacturers, distributors, service providers and consultants.

Like all the best ideas, the fundamentals underpinning Water Dragons are simple and straightforward. Companies pitch their innovation to the Dragons. The Dragons then cross-examine the presenters, focussing on three key areas:

  • Have they clearly identified the potential size and value of the market?
  • Have the presenters thought through how their innovation would be implemented?
  • No innovation operates in a vacuum - how will its introduction impact on existing operations, working practices and systems?

Water Dragons dovetails with the Future Water Association’s ‘Innovating for the future’ roadmap. Together they help members travel the innovation journey with increased confidence and certainty.

The first heat of 2016 held as part of the Severn Trent Innovation Day on 2 February saw iVapps take the Audience award

and Nivus the Dragons award.

Utility Week Live at the NEC was the venue for our second heat on 17 May when Glan Agua took the top prize

and Agily were highly commended.

The final of Water Dragons 2016 took place in November 2016, hosted by Hydrosave and South Staffs Water.
