Competition Comes to the non-household market

The Water Act of 2014 established the framework and process that is known as 'Open Water' - this is the market framework that allows 1.2 million or more non-household customers to choose the supplier of their water and waste water retail services.

The competitive market will open on 1st April 2017.

Open Water as a programme is being led Defra, and the Water Industry regulator OFWAT. The functioning market and its operations is being developed by the Market Service Operator company, MOSL. All of the companies that want to operate in the new market from April 2017 must belong to MOSL.
