On Wednesday 2nd May we had a great day at Skanska, Bentley Works in Doncaster, where we held an innovation & supplier day combined with the very first Water Dragons session of 2018. The event was supported by both Skanska and CECA, who along with Yorkshire Water, were judges on the Water Dragons panel.

CONGRATULATIONS PONTOONWORKS!

After listening to pitches from six very different companies within the industry, the panel of 'Dragons' were left with the daunting task of picking a winner. After careful consideration of each innovative product or service, the judging panel, made up of representatives from of Yorkshire Water, CECA and Skanska, reached their decision and declared Pontoonworks the overall winner.

Kate Brunt and Chris Murphy from Pontoonworks presented their solution for providing pontoons during temporary maintenance works. The bespoke working platforms enable works within confined spaces such as clarification, HBCs, and settlement tanks. The modular units can be configured quickly into any size or shape platform as well as being easily anchored. The use of this service negates the need to drain tanks to install scaffold, allowing a much faster and innovative access solution. Installation in an HBC typically takes between 2 to 8 hours depending on the size.  The platforms are fully equipped with edge protection providing a safer space for your workforce.

Kate and Chris not only impressed the judges with their presentation, they also impressed the audience. Made up of 60+ people from across the sector, the audience could also clearly see the benefits and potential of such an innovative system and choose Pontoonworks as winners of the Audience Award.

Well done to all the companies that took part, the standard of entrants was particularly high for this heat and congratulations to the overall winners Pontoonworks. We look forward to seeing you at the final!
